On January 14th, 2007, 14-year-old Megan Stewart disappeared. Three weeks later, her 13-year-old best friend Amy Herman also vanished. Assembled from video chats, webcam footage, home videos and news reports, this is what happened in the days immediately before, and after, Megan went missing.
So, I decided to watch this movie last night called 'Megan is Missing.' The synopsis on Netflix was fairly vague and I was going to watch 'Paranormal Activity 2' but my fellow movie watcher complained SO 'Megan is Missing' it was. Umm, I don't know how I feel about this movie. And I'm not sure if it's really even a horror movie but it scared me. It freaked me out, felt me leaving disturbed and just....I don't know. And I also haven't been able to stop thinking about 3 particular parts in said movie since I watched it. Actually, I was in the shower today and I was tripping out because I started thinking about it and got scared....HA! I really did, terrible! The thing is, 'Megain is Missing' isn't scary...it's not like creepy ghosts or anything. What makes it so disturbing and scary is the thought. The reality that's behind it. It freaked me out and I can't stop thinking about it. It's like...burned into my cerebral cortex.
Any who, this movie starts off very strange. And I really almost turned it off because I was like "WTF IS THIS??????" lol. But, I decided to keep watching because it's better than a 20 minute discussion over what else to watch. So this movie is about a girl name Megan and her friend Amy...I think it was Amy. Anyways, they meet this online person, Megan goes missing and yeah. It doesn't sound interesting but the last 20 minutes of this movie is KILLER. I mean, it's terribly disgusting to have to hear 14 year old girls talk about what these girls talked about, but just sit through it! Listen to the whole story. You have to like...go with it and pay attention to notice the creepy things a happening. haha.
So, I don't know what to rate this movie. I've been debating about it since I watched it. Partially because it disturbed me on a level that isn't right. It scared me. I am scared. But, it was executed in a weird way. At first I thought it was these girls talking on webcam all the time. Then I realized that it was probably just phone calls but it's a movie, so they had to do something there...get it? It's not that long of a movie so you should watch it. Just to get that creep-ed out sketchy feeling that I have right now. Ugh!

My oh my, I decided to watch this movie tonight after reading my colleague's review..and let me tell you this. I agree 100%, this is a freaky movie. The last 25 minutes gave me such feelings, like anxiety, chills, frights and horror. While it claims to be based on real live events...it sure does leave somethings to consider. This could happen. How many times, do you find yourself on the computer talking to someone you don't know.People meet others online all the time. There were a few scenes in particular that have been burnt into my mind, like Ginger said. The effects of these two scenes are well done. Being a fan of "The Blair Witch Project", it's that type of movie. Could it be real? Could it be fake? It keeps the viewer guessing.
I want to thank Ginger for doing this review, because without it, I would never of heard of this movie. It does have that major creep factor, and for that I am going to give it a gruesome 4/5.

Ok, So I just finished watching this movie because of your review. I felt the need to see it. I can deeply say that the movie was disturbing. Reality known that each day young girls etc are online chatting with who knows what. It pays to be way smarter in this world these days. The photos they showed of Megan are truly creepy and when they show her in the barrel. And what happens to Amy is sad in all ways. You know me I love horror. I am hoping that this film can be a lesson as to if you value your life you only talk to those you truly know.

ReplyDeleteThose two pics of "Megan"..literally scared the hell out of me...and that barrel too...was gruesome, but the scary thing is that it could happen. People meet strangers online all the time..and I like the fact it was endorsed by Mr. Klaas.

I totally don't get what it is about from your review, but you're still making me want to see it. It's been forever since I've seen something actually scary. I hope it's on Netflix streaming!

ReplyDeleteThanks for your reviews/thoughts about my movie. Having people not forget it was certainly my goal, because then they would think about the message of the movie. The internet is great, but there's a whole bunch of nasty people out there who use it to victimize others, and the thing we can do is to be a bit more cautious about how we use social networking sites. This movie scared the living hell out of me! I couldnt sleep after I watched it I just kept replaying Megan's face when that guy flipped the lid off the blue barrel
ReplyDeleteLiterally watched this movie like 5 minutes ago...I can barely breathe! First and foremost, I was blown away by the extreme sexuality of all those kids, like 13-14 years old, that to me was quite scary...but then it just got so much more disturbing. The scariest thing of all is that it could totally happen. I am a counselor and I have had teenage clients who have had creepy things happen online with people much older than them who lied about their age. It's horrifying...The movie scared the living crap out of me but I guess that is a good thing, I am much more aware of how bad it can actually be and has been. Thank you, Michael Goi, for the education!
