In a quiet suburban town in the summer of 1958, two recently orphaned sisters are placed in the care of their mentally unstable Aunt Ruth (Emmy® winner Blanche Baker of HOLOCAUST). But Ruth s depraved sense of discipline will soon lead to unspeakable acts of abuse and torture that involve her young sons, the neighborhood children, and one 12-year-old boy whose life will be changed forever. William Atherton (DIE HARD), Catherine Mary Stewart (NIGHT OF THE COMET) and Grant Show (MELROSE PLACE) co-star in this devastating drama adapted from the controversial best seller by Jack Ketchum that Rue Morgue Magazine called one of the most disturbing reads in the history of horror literature.
I recently saw this movie on my Netflix recommended list so I watched it. I heard it was really good and had some really good ratings. I'm happy to say that it was actually really good lol. I didn't know when I first started watching it that it was a 'based on true events' movie. But, it is actually based on a real story that I read up on and I have to say, gross. Sick, gross, nasty, disturbing. Like, how the....? I mean, really? Who does that? It's not scary. Well, I don't know, maybe it is. But it wasn't scary to me, it was just disturbing. And I mean really disturbing.
It's the retelling of an actual event. Some guy turned it into a book and the book was made into a movie. It's about this girl named Meg. And she is young, like maybe 14? I'm not exactly sure how old she is. Anyways, her parents are dead so she has to go and live with her Aunt. Her aunt doesn't have a husband but has 3 kids. She is sick and twisted. Like, I wish I could meet the real lady, I'd punch her in her damn face! I'd like to do much worse things than that to her but whatever. Anyways, this young girl is roped up in a basement, naked, for days. days and days. She is blindfolded and gagged so that she won't scream. This kid Davie tries to help her escape which doesn't work out.
I'm not going to give away too much about the movie because I think everyone should see it. It's really distrubing. I mean, especially if you're a chick. Like...how messed up does a person have to be to do half of this shit? Seriously! After you watch the movie, look it up. Google it, it's real. Disgusting. Anyways, I give this movie:
My Rating: 4/5

This movie was so disturbing and sad...
ReplyDeleteBut there were some parts that was really aggravating me, like the fact that the kid didn't tell anybody. Or how annoying that psycho mom was.
Glad to see you liked it. I love this film and pretty much all of the work of Ketchum. If you have not seen The Woman, you need to.
